The Solar Trade Association today paid testament to Léonie Greene after it was announced she would be standing down from the trade body after more than eight years.

She has been head of external affairs, later serving as director of advocacy and new markets, first joining the trade body following her work at Greenpeace as a political adviser.

A statement released by the association said: “The STA and the whole UK solar industry will be forever grateful for her huge contribution towards putting solar firmly on the map in this country.

“We wish her every success in the future,” the statement read.

Greene has been a stalwart of the solar industry in her time at the STA, playing a prominent role in a number of high-profile campaigns on behalf of the solar industry. She recently won the Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s Solar and Storage Live Awards, recognising her years of dedication to campaigning on behalf of the industry, with STA chief executive Chris Hewett saying “solar in the UK would not be where it is today” without her.

On Twitter, Green said: “Thrilled to get my mits on my Lifetime Achievement Award from Chair @thesolartrade. Means a lot to me & it’s the perfect note to leave on! Was my privilege to help develop the UK solar industry. Thanks to all mobilising #ClimateEmergency solutions, the most vital effort ever! X”

Solar Power Portal would like to place on record its thanks to Léonie for her work on behalf of the UK solar sector, and wish her success in the future.
